The local Kiwanis Club’s first project was sponsoring the “Kiwanis Braves” Little League baseball team.  The annual “Good fellows" Christmas Wrap, Scholarship recognition, and “New Teachers” recognition have been ongoing for over 40 years.  Kiwanis sponsors the Auglaize Industies Aktion Club.  Kiwanis has provided two children’s parks in St. Mary’s, one on Beech Street and Kiwanis Kuck’s Cove at the north end of Front Street.  During 2003 Kiwanis established “Perfect Attendance” recognition for all students K-12.  The club established the Kiwanis/Campbell “Power of the Pen” award for McBroom Junior High students that are permanently endowed through the St. Mary’s Community Foundation in-order to financially award students for years to come.  Annually, Kiwanis supports the “RIF” Reading is Fundamental program and annually sends a sophomore student to the Key Leader youth leadership seminar.  Profits from the spring and fall Pancake Days, Summerfest food stand, golf outing and other fundraising projects support the Kiwanis Projects. The club gives book scholarships to all graduating M.H.S seniors who begin their college education at Wright State University Lake Campus.  Kiwanis supplies the city Swim Team with ribbons and has provided awards to the Junior Rifle Club.  We host an Elementary School Track Meet; sponsor the annual Walk with Nature, and other projects helping all walks of life from youth to senior citizens.   The Kiwanis Club, among its other projects, includes the Vial of Life program which supplies the vials to Auglaize Council on Aging for distribution throughout the county.  We also have the Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Shoreline cleanup programs.   Kiwanis also supports and sponsors other activities on a one time or temporary basis at the request or as a need of the community.
